Building Capacities on Disaster Management in Indonesia

Short background

Directly after the Sumatra earthquake in December 2004 the Indonesian Ministry of Research and Technology (RISTEK) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Re-search (BMBF) decided to jointly develop the German Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System (GITEWS). This has been a starting point to support the requisite individual and institutional capacities for the implementation, maintenance and expansion of the Early Warning System. Since 2009 this platform has become a hub for the documentation and management of Multi-Hazard capacity building programmes.
